Sing to Say - Music + Language 1.4.2

Sing to Say is an innovative educational tool designed to enhance language acquisition in children through the integration of music and animation. It employs original songs and lyrics meticulously crafted to target specific vocabulary, providing an engaging learning experience for early learners.

Concept
Research indicates that music and language are processed in different areas of the brain. Sing to Say leverages this understanding by using music as a conduit to access language centers, facilitating improved language learning.

Modules
Sing to Say consists of four distinct modules:

• LEARN IT: This module helps children acquire new vocabulary through song and animation.
• SING IT: Here, children can explore expressive language using the vocabulary learned in the LEARN IT module.
• CHECK IT: This component assesses understanding and retention of the material presented.
• TRACKING: The application monitors and provides feedback on a child’s progress across various learning activities.

Research History
Initially developed to support children with autism and language learning challenges, Sing to Say is grounded in substantial research. The program’s framework was established after investigating the relationship between music and language acquisition in children who experience expressive language delays.

Collaboration with educators, parents, and therapists facilitated two phases of formative research, which included focus groups and user testing across six schools within the Toronto District School Board.
